Jung popularized it, having it inscribed over the doorway of his house, and upon his tomb. This bronze plaque by Ken Thompson of the Wild Goose Studios is 10 x 7.
The power of love has been celebrated through the ages, in this case around the year 40BC by the great Roman poet Virgil, who followed this timeless and universal phrase: et nos cedamus amori - and let us all yield to love. Plaque measures 5.5" X 4.75" .
"Bidden or not bidden, God is present." Carl Jung, the eminent psychologist, had this quote carved over the front door of his Zurich home, as well as on his tombstone. It is an English translation of the Latin "Vocatus Atque Non Vocatus Deus Aderit", a quotation he came across when studying Erasmus. The words are said to originate from the reply given by the Delphic Oracle to the Spartans when they were planning a war against Athens: "Yes, the Gods will be present, but in what form and to what purpose?"
The design of this plaque is from an original carved inscription by sculptor Ken Thompson. It is approximately 7 inches wide, 9 inches tall, and 3/4 inch thick at the point of greatest depth. This Wild Goose Studio piece is a bronze plaque, and can be placed outdoors where they will acquire a green patina over time.
"Let You Life Speak". Quakers try to make a practical witness to their values, which include love, truth, integrity and peace. These simple words from the Quaker tradition call on us to lead lives that embody our beliefs. Words have been cherished in Ireland since the first lines were carved on Ogham stones and they are celebrated in song, poetry and the art of everyday conversation. Today, this can be seen in the award-winning designs that are handmade at the Wild Goose Studio. Each piece is handmade by skilled artisans at Wild Goose Studio, Kinsale, County Cork, and is formed from cast bronze, with a resin and ceramic core for lightweight strength. Approximately 10.5" x 2".
Cast by hand in the Wild Goose Studio, Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland. This plaque of the Dante quotation "Nature is the art of God" has an outer shell of pure bronze with an inner core of cast resin material for stability. Each Wild Goose piece is made entirely by hand, with no two being exactly alike. Since ancient times, bronze has been a highly prized metal for the making of tools, jewelry and statues. It is an alloy of copper, which was first mined in Ireland over 4000 years ago. Left to weather, it will acquire a green patina; polished it will shine like gold. The quotation "La Natura e L'Arte di Dio" meaning "Nature is the art of God" is attributed to Dante Alighieri (1265-1321). This plaque is from an original carved design by Irish artist Kathleen Smyth. Fuschias, a beautiful form of God's natural art, decorate the top of the plaque. These lovely flowers grow in wild abandon all along the hedgerows of West Cork, Ireland, where the artist lives and where this plaque was made.
